Defense Medical Exam (DME) Attendance

California law allows one other person to attend a DME (AKA IME) with a client. Defense counsel relies heavily on DMEs in order to dispute the severity of a claim. For plaintiffs, the DME is often intimidating. They may be under stress, and they may appreciate the extra support from a caring nurse. They may encounter a hostile doctor and may need someone to speak up for them during the exam. No matter which side you represent, hiring a nurse for a DME observation is an excellent decision for assuring that the information collected in a DME is useful and correct.

STROSA LEGAL NURSE CONSULTING, LLC can send a registered nurse to your next DME. Located in Los Angeles, CA, and serving Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside & San Bernardino Counties, we can help interpret DME results and comment on the techniques used during the exam, and in essence be your eyes and ears.

Our services in DME observation include:

  • Observing patient reactions and non-verbal communication and communication, such as grimacing, crying, tone of voice, etc.

  • Audio-recording the entire DME

  • Timing the history and physical

  • Documenting conversations

  • Noting tests completed by the patient

  • Comparing observations with the DME report

  • Protecting the client's rights and offering comfort

Sometimes, the DME observation can reveal discrepancies between the report and what actually occurred in the exam. When this happens, our consultant is also available to testify at arbitration or trial. Depending on the differences, is is likely that the presence and testimony of a nurse consultant can work in your favor.

Defense attorneys want reassurance that the plaintiff’s complaints are sincere. Plaintiff’s attorneys want their clients' medical issues taken seriously and represented accurately. Having a nurse observe the DME can meet either of these objectives. To arrange for a DME observation, contact us today!

Medical Records Reviews

Medical records are frequently complex and time consuming. This is especially true if you do not have a medical background. Personal injury or workers’ compensation attorneys likely have specific knowledge of medical conditions as do insurance professionals. However, if a patient faces a rare medical condition or has a complex medical history, hiring a nurse consultant can enhance your understanding and decision-making.

STROSA LEGAL NURSE CONSULTING, LLC will assist you with your medical reviews. Sometimes, your challenge may be the sheer number of medical records, hundreds and hundreds of pages, which can take up needed resources at your office for other tasks. There are also cases where a patient suffers a complex condition where technical terms and convoluted records make good decisions nearly impossible. When you face cases like this, you need medical expertise on your side.

That is where our nurse consultants come in. We can provide the medical review you need to better understand a case or claim. This will help you plan your litigation strategy (if you are an attorney) or make better claim decisions (if you are an insurance adjuster). Our goal is to help you grasp a patient’s condition better so you can proceed in an informed course of action.

Prepping Your Clients in Spanish

We are fluent in English and Spanish and can prep your client for their upcoming DME or other meetings. We can be on a three-way call with you and your client, or call them for you and do the preparation - we do DMEs almost every day of the workweek, so this is something we're very good at.

Comparison Report Reviews

We will review the medical report submitted by the Doctor who was hired by the Defense, and compare it to the report written, and audio recording(s) which were made by the attending nurse, citing differences, omissions, and/or any other discrepancies. (All comments about what was observed and documented are made from a nursing perspective. Any medical determinations are to be made by physicians.)

Finding a Medical Expert

Finding medical experts is not easy for laypeople. You often do not know where to look first as this is often not a task completed with Yelp reviews. Even professionals will find this challenging. A civil litigator whose client has an unfamiliar type of illness or injury may be hard-pressed to find the best medical expert when previous contacts do not have the required knowledge.

Doctors are notorious for hating legal procedures. It can be difficult if you are an attorney to find a doctor willing to give testimony in arbitration or trial. If you are an insurance professional, you may also struggle with finding medical experts who present as objective and knowledgeable. When you are facing these challenges, you need a consultant who can find you the best testifying experts.

That is where laypeople, attorneys, and insurance professionals can benefit from STROSA LEGAL NURSE CONSULTING, LLC. Located in Los Angeles, CA, and serving Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties, we offer the network you need to find expertise. We will not only find you an expert who is knowledgeable but also offers credentials that will make it difficult to question them.

Our medical experts offer second opinions, independent medical examinations, and expert testimony, depending on what you require from them. They will write reports and give depositions. When you locate an expert through us, you can do so with confidence that they will offer the background and experience to help your case or clarify a medical issue. Contact us today to get started on finding your ideal medical expert.
